# Send a message and add emoji

> Write to a fan from the message box of an open conversation, add emoji, and know what happens to your draft.

Write to a fan from the message box at the bottom of a conversation, and add emoji as you type.

## Before you start

* You need an owner, admin or chatter account in OnlyX. A chatter can write only in the conversations of the creators assigned to them.
* The creator's account must be connected. See [Connection statuses explained](/connecting/connection-statuses).

## Send a message

    In OnlyX, click **Inbox**. Then click the fan's conversation in the **Master Inbox**.

    The message box is at the bottom of the conversation. It reads "Message this fan…". If Hugo owns the conversation, a line over the message box reads "Hugo owns this thread. Replying takes it over for 12 hours."

  <Step title="Type your message">
    Click in the message box. Then type your message. To start a new line, press <kbd>Shift</kbd> + <kbd>Enter</kbd>.

    The box grows up to 6 lines. After that, it scrolls.

  <Step title="Send the message">
    Press <kbd>Enter</kbd>, or click the round arrow button at the end of the message box.

    The box empties, and your message appears at the end of the conversation. No confirmation message appears.

    On OnlyFans, your message shows "sending" until the creator's account sends it. This usually takes less than a minute, and can take longer when the account is busy. See [Message delivery states: did the fan get it?](/inbox/delivery-states).

    <Warning>
      This message goes to the real fan. On OnlyFans, you can **Unsend** a message within 24 hours, but the fan may already have read it.

<Note>
  When you reply in a conversation that Hugo owns, you take it over for 12 hours. Hugo does not answer that fan while you have it. To give it back sooner, click **Resume Hugo**. After 12 hours, it goes back to Hugo by itself if Hugo is on for the creator.

Your message also cancels the check-ins and follow-ups that Hugo had planned for this fan. A message can have up to 4,000 characters.

## Add emoji from the quick row

A row of 16 emoji sits over the message box: 😘 😍 🥰 😏 😈 🤤 🔥 💦 🍑 👀 💕 ❤️ 😉 😂 🙈 🥵. The row looks grey until you point at the message area or click in the message box.

Click an emoji to add it where your cursor is. When you click it, the cursor goes back to the message box, so you can keep typing. On a narrow screen, the row scrolls sideways.

## Find any other emoji

    Click the smiley button with a plus sign, at the start of the emoji row. Its name is **All emoji** when you point at it.

    A panel opens with a search box, "Search all emoji…". Your recently used emoji come first.

    Type a word, for example "heart".

    The best matches appear, and the first one is marked.

    Click the emoji. Or use the arrow keys to mark another one, then press <kbd>Enter</kbd>.

    The panel closes, and the emoji appears where your cursor was.

OnlyX remembers your 24 most recent emoji in this browser, not in your account. On another computer, the list starts empty.

## Drafts are not kept

Each conversation has its own message box, and OnlyX does not save what you type. When you open another conversation, your text is lost, and so is any media that you attached. Send your message, or copy it, before you switch.

## If something goes wrong

    OnlyX or OnlyFans refused the message. If you are still in the conversation, your text and your attachments are back in the message box.

    Check these causes, then send again:

    * The message is longer than 4,000 characters.
    * A PPV breaks a limit. See [Send a PPV or free media from the vault](/inbox/send-a-ppv).
    * The fan asked not to get sales offers. Then OnlyX refuses a PPV, but a message without a price goes out.

    If you had already opened another conversation, your text and attachments are lost. Write them again.

  <Accordion title="A message says &#x22;This thread is read-only for now&#x22;">
    The creator has no connected account that can send messages. Your draft is kept. Ask an owner or admin to check her connection on the **Creators** page. See [Connection statuses explained](/connecting/connection-statuses).

  <Accordion title="The send button is grey">
    The message box is empty, or your last message is still being sent. Type a message, or wait a moment.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Enter does not send while I type in Chinese, Japanese or Korean">
    While your keyboard is choosing a character, <kbd>Enter</kbd> confirms the character. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd> again to send.

  <Accordion title="The emoji panel says &#x22;Could not load the emoji list. The quick row still works.&#x22;">
    Use the emoji in the quick row, or reload the page and open **All emoji** again.
