# AI Persona: tell Hugo who she is

> Fill in the Identity section of AI Persona: the name, age, city, job and backstory Hugo needs to speak as the creator.

The **Identity** section of **AI Persona** holds the facts Hugo uses when he speaks as the creator. Fans ask about them, and Hugo remembers what he told each fan.

## Before you start

* You need an owner, admin or content VA account. Chatters can open **AI Persona**, but they cannot save it.
* Ask the creator for the real facts: where she lives, what she does and how she looks. The app warns: "Wrong details get remembered."

## Fill in who she is

    In OnlyX, click **Creators**. Then click the creator and click **AI Persona**.

    The **Identity** section opens. A yellow dot on the **Identity** pill means a required field is still empty.

  <Step title="Fill in the required fields">
    Enter the **Persona name**, **Age**, **Occupation**, **Lives in** and **Backstory**. The age must be between 18 and 99.

    The table under these steps explains each field.

    Fill in the optional fields that fit her, such as **How she looks**, **Interests** and **Time zone**.

  <Step title="Save the persona">
    At the top of the tab, click **Save**.

    The message "AI Persona saved" appears, and the **Identity** pill shows a tick.

  <Step title="Check the setup step">
    Click **Overview**.

    The step "Write the persona" shows **Done** once the persona has an age and a backstory. Its status shows both, for example "Age 26 · 70 words of backstory".

<Note>
  **Save** saves all three sections of **AI Persona** at once: **Identity**, **Voice** and **Limits**. If you leave the tab or open another creator before you save, your changes are lost.

If the creator's limits were never saved, your first save also saves the recommended limits that are ticked on **Limits**. See [Set hard limits and soft boundaries](/hugo/hard-limits-and-soft-boundaries).

## The fields

| Field | Required | What to enter |

| **Persona name** | Yes | The name she uses with fans. |
| **Nickname** | No | What close fans call her. |
| **Age** | Yes | Her age, from 18 to 99. |
| **Occupation** | Yes | What she does, for example student or barista. |
| **Lives in** | Yes | Her city. |
| **Originally from** | No | Where she grew up. |
| **Time zone** | No | Her local time, so she is not wide awake at 4 am. It starts as UTC. |
| **Primary language** | No | The language she writes in, unless a fan starts in another one. It starts as English. |
| **Also speaks** | No | Other languages she can switch to when a fan writes in them. |
| **Backstory** | Yes | A few lines about her life: where she grew up, who she lives with, what she does all day. Up to 4,000 characters. |
| **How she looks** | No | Her height, hair, tattoos or piercings. Fans ask about this. |
| **Interests** | No | Her hobbies, separated by commas. |
| **Where her fans come from** | No | For example, "Mostly Instagram, some TikTok". It changes what Hugo assumes fans already know. |

Hugo needs only two of these before he answers fans: the **Age** and the **Backstory**. The yellow dot on **Identity** stays until all five required fields are filled, so fill in the other three too.

## Change a detail later

Type the new value over the old one. Then click **Save**.

An empty text field is not saved: if you clear one and click **Save**, the old value stays. **Age** cannot be left empty: with it empty, the save fails with "Could not save the persona". To remove a language or an interest, delete it from the list, then save.

## If something goes wrong

    OnlyX did not accept a value. Check that the age is filled in and between 18 and 99. The backstory must be 4,000 characters or fewer. Chatters cannot save the persona: ask an owner, admin or content VA.

    OnlyX changed since you opened the page. Reload the page, make your changes again, and click **Save**.

  <Accordion title="I cleared a field, but the old value came back">
    An empty field is not saved, so the old value stays. Type the correct value into the field instead, then click **Save**.

  <Accordion title="The Identity pill still shows a yellow dot">
    One of the five required fields is empty: **Persona name**, **Age**, **Occupation**, **Lives in** or **Backstory**. Fill it in, then click **Save**.

  <Accordion title="My changes are gone">
    Changes are kept only until you leave the tab. Moving between **Identity**, **Voice** and **Limits** keeps them. Opening another tab or another creator before you click **Save** loses them.
